Toy Tonics is a German label. A music and art collective dedicated to electronic dance music with soul and indie influences, edgy graphic design, independent fashion, DJ culture and the art of party planning. Toy Tonics’ musical style ranges from underground disco and new wave funk to wild house and wacky eclectic music. Most Toy Tonics artists live in Berlin, where the label regularly organizes parties at venues such as Funkhaus, Zenner, Aeden, OXI Club or Panorama Bar. Since 2022, the crew also organizes worldwide events (The Toy Tonics Jams) that take place in major clubs such as Phonox, E1 or Jazz Cafe in London, Badaboum and Sacre in Paris, Nitsa in Barcelona or Apollo in Milan.
The founder and creative director of the label is KAPOTE aka Mathias Modica, who founded the label in 2015 with some friends who share the same passion for DJ culture, vinyl digging, innovative music production and a certain obsession with all kinds of individualistic styles in art and music. Before Toy Tonics Mathias ran GOMMA records (2000 – 2015) where he produced Indie-Dance records for and with artists such as Peaches, WhoMadeWho, James Murphy of LCD Soundsystem, Nick McCarthy of Franz Ferdinand etc. Toy Tonics’ style is influenced by American house music, Italo disco, New York punk funk, and the more open dancefloor sounds of the Y2K period.
